OUR MISSION

EMPOWERING YOUTH

donniecanarytranslogo.png

The Donnie Canary Foundation was created in 2014 to honor the late Donnie Canary. He was a self-motivated community leader who impacted many lives in such a short time. Our goal as an organization is to carry forward his impact and vision of success. We STRIVE to ENHANCE the communication, interpersonal, decision-making, and life-long learning skills of Hardee County Youth. By investing in our youth, and educating them in soft business skills, we will enhance them to be significant players in our local economy and beyond.

Programs

Junior Leadership Hardee

The Hardee County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Hardee program, originated in 2008, is designed to expose current and future leaders to  all aspects of Hardee County. It is Hardee County’s premier leadership training program and has more  than 100 graduates.

The  Donnie Canary Foundation partnered with the Chamber of Commerce in 2019  to offer this outstanding  program to High School students. The program's purpose is to identify junior leaders of diverse backgrounds, and develop their potential and desire to accept civic responsibilities and leadership roles. Junior leaders will be exposed to the problems and opportunities that face Hardee County, and will build a realistic understanding of leadership in today’s complex society. This program will facilitate open dialogue among emerging junior leaders and current community leaders and will acquaint them with the processes, programs, opportunities and challenges that face our county.

Class members are led through nine comprehensive days over the course of a class year that each  pinpoint focus on a different segment of Hardee County, including: Agricutlure, Business and Industry, Communications and Culture, Education, Healthcare, Financial Services, Law Enforcement, Local Government and Infrastructure.
